Volkswagen has introduced the Multivan Camper, a stripped-down van designed for professional or DIY camper conversion. It comes with a factory pop-up roof, two front seats, and an empty cargo area. Prices start at £43,900 (approx. €50,500 excl. VAT), undercutting the ready-made California, but requiring additional certification after conversion.
Volkswagen has unveiled the Multivan Camper, a factory-built platform for creating custom campervans. Based on the long-wheelbase Multivan, it features a manual pop-up roof, two swiveling front seats, and a completely empty rear section, leaving the interior layout entirely to the converter.
Engines and pricing
Two powertrains are available: a 2.0 TDI diesel with 148–150 hp and an eHybrid plug-in hybrid with 237–240 hp and all-wheel drive. Pricing starts at £43,900 (approximately €50,500 excluding VAT), making it cheaper than the fully equipped California. However, the vehicle is classified as an incomplete chassis and requires separate certification after conversion.
Availability
In the UK, the Multivan Camper is initially offered only to professional converters. Availability for private buyers may vary by market.
