A Somerset West consultant has filed a lawsuit in the Johannesburg High Court, seeking 756,695 rand for a Ng’Ombe Off-Roader 6.2 caravan priced at 1.25 million rand, in which 14 or 18 defects were found. The manufacturer denies liability.
A consultant from Somerset West has taken Elite Luxury Off Road Vehicles to the Johannesburg High Court over a luxury off-road caravan, the Ng’Ombe Off Roader 6.2. The plaintiff demands compensation of 756,695 South African rand — the difference between the purchase price (1.25 million rand) and the amount obtained from a subsequent sale (550,000 rand).
The caravan was delivered in April 2023. According to the plaintiff, it had multiple defects — sources disagree on the exact number, citing either 18 or 14 faults. These include water leaks and safety concerns.
Manufacturer's stance
Elite Luxury Off Road Vehicles contests the claims. The company argues that all defects were rectified under warranty and that any damage resulted from the client's own negligence after delivery. It also points out that the plaintiff sold the caravan for 550,000 rand, thereby increasing the claimed losses.
