On May 1, 2026, at 4:35 PM on the B 207 near Großenbrode, a 45-year-old driver of a VW Multivan crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a motorhome. The Multivan driver died at the scene despite resuscitation efforts; the motorhome driver sustained minor injuries. The highway was closed until 10:20 PM for investigation and vehicle recovery.

The Landvergnügen network lists over 2,100 hosts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, offering motorhome owners free overnight parking for 24 hours. In Lower Saxony, about 200 farms participate. Guests park on private land in exchange for a purchase at the farm shop or a meal. The app provides host profiles, photos, route planning and booking; a maximum of three vehicles per site is allowed.

In the early hours of May 2, a caravan caught fire and burned out completely in Paderborn. The fire started around 03:50 in a wooded area near Barkhauser Straße. The cause remains unknown; no license plates were attached and the owner is unidentified. Damage is estimated in the low four-digit euro range.

On the A2 motorway near Burg (Saxony-Anhalt), a car crashed into a motorhome, causing it to overturn. Three people sustained minor injuries. The car driver was under the influence of drugs and had his license confiscated.

German manufacturer Bürstner has announced it will cease production of caravans as of January 1, 2027. The company, which has been building towable caravans since 1958, will shift focus entirely to motorhomes and campervans. The decision is driven by a sustained decline in demand for caravans and the growing popularity of self-propelled models. Bürstner will continue to supply spare parts and service for existing caravans.

In Klanxbüll, a 6500 m² area originally planned for a hotel will now host 20 motorhome parking spaces and four tiny houses. The project addresses high demand for camper parking.
