In County Donegal, Ireland, several incidents involving camper vans and caravans have been reported: an attack on a family, illegal parking, a break-in, a hit-and-run collision, and a near-flooding on a beach.
Attack on a family in Inishowen
A family from Waterford had to cut short their holiday in County Donegal after unknown assailants pelted their camper van with eggs and verbally abused them. The incident occurred at Pollan Bay in Ballyliffin. Local residents condemned the attack.
Illegal parking issues
County Donegal authorities called for action against illegal camper van parking at the pier in Donegal Town. In summer, up to 30 vans park overnight, taking up 2-3 spaces and blocking pedestrian paths. Councillor Tom Conaghan proposed appointing a permanent inspector.
Break-in at a caravan park
At a park in Rossnowlagh, on 29-30 March, intruders forced open the door of one caravan but stole nothing. Owners were advised to enhance security.
Hit-and-run in Buncrana
Gardai are searching for a camper van driver who fled after a collision with a bus on 21 July on the R238 road in Ballymagan. The van drove off towards Umricam; the bus sustained damage to its side mirror and driver-side window.
Near-flooding in Portnablagh
In the coastal town of Portnablagh, a high tide nearly submerged a caravan and a camper van. Owners had not accounted for the water rise; holidaymakers had to push the camper van off the beach, while locals searched for the caravan owner near the pier.
