In Harsewinkel (Germany), two projects converting old trucks into camper vans have drawn public attention.
XXL motorhome from a horse transporter
Manfred "Manny" Pelkmann converted a 7.5-ton MAN truck, formerly used for horse transport, into a full-fledged motorhome with 18 sq m of living space. The vehicle is equipped with a 170 hp engine, underfloor heating, a bathroom with shower, and an outdoor kitchen. Additional storage is provided above the driver's cab. All work was done by himself.
Mini camper from a DHL van
A 63-year-old former postal worker converted an old yellow DHL delivery van into a compact camper van with 8 sq m of living space. The project was completed by himself; his wife and dog accompany him on trips. The vehicle has a seasonal license plate valid from April to October. The conversion cost about 3,000 euros.
