Former office worker Rahmi Shofia (Mimi Campervan) quit her job at age 35, converted a Luxio van, and spent nearly two years traveling across Eastern Indonesia while doing social work. In May 2026 she plans a new trip to Kalimantan and Sulawesi.
Rahmi Shofia, known as Mimi Campervan, decided to change her life during the pandemic, tired of years of office routine. At around 35, she left the job she had held since 2010 and set off across Indonesia in a converted Luxio van. She initially traveled by motorcycle in Bali, then built her own camper.
Journey through Eastern Indonesia
For nearly two years, Mimi Campervan traveled to about 35 locations in eastern Indonesia, including Bali, Flores, and East Timor. Along the way, she engaged in social activities: collecting trash on Mount Rinjani, helping build a mosque in Bima, and repairing a house for an elderly person on Sumba. Her journey ended in late 2024 after an incident in Alor where she tried to help a sick local resident.
Plans and challenges
The traveler faced stigmatization but emphasizes the importance of preparation, respect for local culture, and financial independence. In May 2026, she plans a new three-to-four-month trip through eastern Kalimantan and Sulawesi.
