India's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed new technical standards for special vehicle categories, including trailer caravans, agricultural tractors and troop carriers.

Key changes

Trailer caravans: type approval rules to simplify registration and support caravan tourism.
Tractors: standards for testing air conditioning and heating systems in cabs, aimed at improving working conditions for farmers. Hybrid and electric models are exempt.
Troop carriers: type approval norms to remove bureaucratic hurdles in registration.

The draft was developed in response to the growing popularity of caravan tourism and the need to simplify registration of modified vehicles.
